Ginger Tea

GINGER INFUSION

A simple infusion of fresh ginger is one of my favourite healthy hot drinks. Ginger has a multitude of health benefits, from easing travel sickness and nausea, to reliving mild pain, dizziness and period cramps. It has anti-inflamatory properties and is a useful immune system booster, so I try to have it every other day though Winter to keep colds and flu at bay.

It can be potent if brewed too long, so slice a couple of pieces into hot water and drink within five to ten minutes. It will continue to strengthen in flavour, so bare this is mind when preparing it! That said a couple of small slices in a larger flask when out and about is usually a nice ratio if you want to prepare it in advance. In Summer is can also be enjoyed cold.

Fresh ginger is best bought in small pieces and stored as dry as possible. Humid or damp boxes will cause it to rot out before you have used it, so we keep ours in a hammock where the air can circulate around it. Don't be alarmed if it sprouts green and starts to grow. Ginger is a root, and in the right conditions it will stay alive for some time.
